Phillip John Velasco Gabriel (b. 1983, Jacksonville, Florida) is a Filipino American painter who lives and works in New York. He received a BFA from Cooper Union in 2007. Gabriel combines geometric abstraction with fragmented figurative imagery drawn from sources including Renaissance painting, comics, advertising, and YouTube videos. Solo exhibitions include American Art Catalogues, New York (2024); And Now, Dallas (2022, 2020); Ramiken, New York (2021, 2019), among others. His work has been included in group exhibitions at Rose Easton, London (2025); American Art Catalogues, New York (2023); Company Gallery, New York (2023); Ramiken, New York (2021, 2017); and Rainbow Body Problem, Los Angeles (2022), among others.
American Art Catalogues published Window Maker, Gabriel’s first monograph, in 2023 with a foreword by curator Christopher Lew. AAC also presented his work in Window Maker (2023) and In Media Res (2024).
